The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) is a council of national African American women's organizations and community-based sections. Legendary Educator, Human Right Activist and Presidential Advisor, Mary McLeod Bethune founded NCNW in 1935 for the purpose of harnessing the collective power of African American women. Under the leadership of Dorothy I. Height since 1957, NCNW has played a seminal role in the advancement of civil rights and social justice issues impacting African American women and their families.

As a 501(c)3 , NCNW is an umbrella organiza¬tion to 39 affiliated organizations; 240 sections in over 40 states; and international field offices in Africa. Overall, NCNW has a global outreach to nearly four million women.
